Over 5 tonnes of waste collected in Himalaya clean up expedition

A series of mountain clean up’s was organised by our fellow Warrior and former Dharamsala Operations Manager Rahul Makkar. The first expedition ran from the 18th to the 22nd Oct, with a team from the Indian Mountaineering Federation visiting the Pantwari-Nag Tibba region, including Chopta, Tugnath temple and Chandrashila peak. The team IMF team supported by ONGC collected 3000 kg of waste!

The 2nd expedition was from 24th October up until the 1st November in Sari, Deoria Tal, Kanakchauri, and Kartik Swami Temple in addition to Chopta, Tungnath and the Chandrashila peak. The Central Industrial Security Forces (CISF), Himalayan Expedition Uttarakhand team commemorating their Golden Jubilee collected 2280 kg, bringing the grand total up to 5280 kg of waste.

Alongside the expedition, awareness programs were carried out among locals,students and tourists educating them about the harmful effects of burning and open dumping of waste. DIG-CISF Raghuvir Lal, Commandant Yatendra Negi, and Asst Commandant Ashoka Nandini felicitated Rahul after the events. We salute & thank everyone that participated in this worthwhile event.
