The Waste Warriors team, has one dream - to make our beautiful India cleaner! We are extremely grateful to the many volunteers who have helped us in the field as well as with an array of online and admin roles. Our success and achievements is largely due to them and for that we are eternally grateful. We offer a varied and interesting program for volunteers in all of our project locations.
Short Term Volunteering
Dharamsala: Give something back to nature, by joining us on our weekly clean up hikes to Triund & Bhagsu Waterfall. To find out more please read our FAQ sheet. Before joining us for the hike, we would suggest you to find out a little more about each of the hikes, so you know what to expect. We go to Triund every Monday (returning on Tuesdays), Bhagsu Waterfall every Thursday and do community clean-up's on Saturdays.
Dehradun: We hold clean-up drives on a regular basis and would love to hear from you if you can come and join us. We hold clean-up events every Saturday and on the first Sunday of every month in Dalanwala and on the second Saturday of every month in Rajpur.
Kids from different backgrounds & ages come together for our monthly Children' Days where they enjoy making creative things from waste, painting, colouring and playing games with an environmental theme . We hold these events on the third Sunday of every month in Dehradun and on the last Sunday of the month in Dharamsala.
You can get in touch with us a few days before and help us prepare for the activities or simply show up at the venue and enjoy some time with the kids. Even if you don’t speak English or Hindi, you can help by taking pictures, preparing refreshments and generally helping out where required.
If you want to do a clean-up but have only a couple of hours, don’t enjoy hiking or our schedule doesn't match with yours you can simply drop in at our offices (see below) and we will loan you the equipment you need. You can borrow some bags and gloves and clean up on your own or with a group of friends! Don't forget to take photos so we can share them on our Facebook pages!
We always need hands for organization or preparation of school programs, film screenings, art projects etc. Get in touch with us and we can let you know what activities we are organizing so you can decide how and when you'd like to help.
Walls murals are a beautiful way of reaching out to people and they get them thinking. If you have artistic skills or enjoy painting, we can provide wall space for you. There are numerous walls that we have painted but we would love to paint more as they are a great way of spreading awareness.
Fundraising events and movie nights are fun ways to raise funds and showcase our work. If you enjoy organizing events and want to support our project, please get in touch.
Full Time and Regular Volunteering
We offer specialized internship and volunteering programmes on long term basis (6 days a week for a minimum time span of 1 month). Please see our Internships page for more information.
We have limited staff and they rarely get a day off so we are in search of volunteers to take over some of our clean up hikes in Dharamsala and Dehradun. If you love hiking, leading a team and meeting new people, you can volunteer as a clean-up hike leader. Clean-up hike leaders are generally responsible for the below tasks.
- Recruiting volunteers for the hikes through different means like spreading the word, posters, Face book, website calendar etc.
- Replying to queries from volunteers who are interested in joining the clean up and giving them proper information
- Ensuring the group is working safely, managing the different cleaning / hiking equipment ie gloves, litter grabbers bags etc
- Leading the group and answering different queries that the volunteers may have
- Maintaining a positive atmosphere, motivating the group, giving them moral support and practical advice.
- Encouraging the volunteers to get involved in the different work involved during the hike like picking up trash, segregation, carrying the bags etc.
- Interacting with the local chai shops and hikers on the way
- Evaluating new routes where clean-up's are required
We organize regular Children’s Days and educational programs so if education and working with kids is your forte, you can volunteer as an Education In-charge:
- Preparing activities that are fun and have an environmental theme
- Contacting different schools, colleges etc. and speak to them about the programs we offer
- Recruit volunteers who can participate and help
- Organizing events and making sure you have all the equipment that is required
There is a lot of admin work that needs to be done and as we grow so does our admin. If you like office work like accounts, maintaining records, updating spreadsheets, writing articles and press releases, social media, online research etc. you are more than welcome to come and join us.
We are very proud of our team of Waste Workers and want to provide a platform for them to grow. Some of our staff know basic English but they are eager to learn more. Even if you can provide just a few hours per week to teach English to our waste workers we know they would really appreciate it.
We can provide accommodation in Dharamsala in exchange for a small donation and can help you to find accommodation in Dehradun. Finding affordable accommodation in Corbett is rather difficult but if you wish to commit to two weeks or more you can stay at our beautiful HQ in the forest in exchange for a donation of Rs. 1500 per week.
