We are delighted to announce that we have received recognition and financial support from the Union Minister of State for Tourism, Dr. K Chiranjeevi. On the 22nd August he announced that he was personally giving a 5 lakh award to our co-founder Jodie Underhill “in recognition of her yeomen service to the cause of Uttarakhand flood tragedy relief”.
During the flood disaster Waste Warriors cleaned in and around the Sahastradhara helipad and Jolly Grant airport, as well as educating people about the harmful effects of Styrofoam and mismanaged waste.
We only found out about the award when NDTV called for a quote and a few hours later Dr. Chiranjeevi himself called Jodie to tell her the good news. During the five minute conversation he congratulated Jodie and her team on a job well done and pledged to spread the word to ensure additional funds could come our way in the future. His role in the Ministry of Tourism could also be a major asset to us.
Jodie said “I am completely over the moon. Waste Warriors have been working very hard and cleaning at the helipad and airport during the flood disaster was no exception. I am honoured that Dr. Chiranjeevi has heard about our work and would like to thank him most sincerely for this very generous donation. It's a dream come true! The entire sum will be donated to Waste Warriors”
