A plastic recycling drive was held in fifteen of our Dehradun Schools from February to May 2018. School students were requested to collect plastic bottles and containers and bring them to school. The plastic waste was then counted and collected by Waste Warriors who sent the plastic for recycling. The aim of the program was to reduce the amount of plastic being sent to landfill and raise awareness on the importance of recycling. Did you know that recycling just 1 plastic bottle saves enough energy to power a 60W light bulb for 6 hours?
A total of 1204 students participated in the program collecting a whopping 15,799 plastic bottles and containers weighing 499.5 kg which were sent for recycling. Doon Valley Public School collected 4711, UPS Malsi School 2678, Purkul Youth Development Society, 1615, Pine Hall School 1240, Manav Bharti International School 1044, Scholars Home - Astley Hall 830, Carman School 805, Doon International School 683, Gyananda School 664, Army Birpur School 303, Modern High School 291, Scholars Home 273, Little Flowers School 235, SGRR Kalidas 228 and the Government Girls Inter College 199.
